Pedro Rosello/ Convention Center

Would somebody explain this to me because I clearly can see any reason why

Less than 10 years ago Pedro Rosello was under investigation for possible fraudulent behavior during his term as Governor of Puerto Rico. Although he was never formally charged, many who worked in the government in his term were found guilty of running scams ( steal money from the people). That only leaves two possibilities. Rosello knew what was happening and probably took part or he is very stupid and blind not see what was going on under his nose. Rosello seems like a very intelligent man, so I would think that option one is the most likely to be correct. Even if there is no proof, he definitely is not trustworthy. The President of the Senate, Rivera Schatz, is fighting with the current governor because he wants the convention center to be named after Rosello because of his accomplishments. What accomplishments? A+ on getting away with corruption? Or if he was innocent, letting half his staff steal the peoples' money?

Natasha Richardson

It's very sad that she had to die because of a silly little accident, specially because she leaves behind her two sons. I thought she sounded familiar but it wasn't until I saw her picture that I recognized her from one of my favorite movies growing up: The Parent Trap. For some strange reason they kept repeating that movie many times while I was a preteen ( abc family and disney channel) , so I've seen it at least six times. If you hit your head go to the hospital even if you feel fine! Life is short and at any moment everything could end, so go out there and live while you can.

Avatar !

Avatar Last Airbender!

Yeap, I am a big fan of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I am very skeptic about the M.Night Shyamalan's movie. I mean animation was cool but can it translate with into a movie?. I thought it was kind of strange when news came out in summer 2008, but it even stranger is the casting. So I guess the Asian part of the saga will be left mostly out. So it's coming out 2010. Anyways, hope they don't butcher this great story.

So from IMBD :

Noah Ringer - Aang ( no picture on the net, only info is that he's a Karate Champion)

Jackson Rathbone- Sokka ( Jasper from twilight )

Nicola Peltz - Katara
umm ok, not what I had expected .

Dev Patel - Zuko ( star of Slumdog Millionaire)
What ??? I loved Slumdog Millionaire, but him as Zuko!! I mean Zuko is not supposed to look goofy and harmless!!! what?? ( was originally going to be played by Jesse McCartney , jeje yeap i know)

Suicide count for PR

Only a month and a few weeks into 2009 and there have been 37 reported suicides in Puerto Rico.

Protest against Armed Forces!

This is why I love the University of Puerto Rico. They love to make their opinions clear( and they love to love protests). Well the law students decided to make a protest against the armed forces(which wanted to recruit people), because of their discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. For many students, the armed forces is necessary for their education ( $$$). Discriminating against sexual orientation, excludes people who might benefit ( limiting their opportunities) and preventing them from serving their country. I think its very important to express your opinion.

Guiness Record!!

Congratulations to Suresh Joachim for breaking a Guinness World Record. He watched 72 hours of continuous uninterrupted hours of tv. Apparently he watched all the seasons of 24. He is from Sri Lanka. Anyone care to challenge? Actually I have watched more 15 hours of tv uninterrupted and I got a headache that lasted for days. Yep, I miss miss summer hobbies. Jeje!

Pictures in the Media

I love how "El Nuevo Dia" and other newspapers shift opinions by a simple photo. The former governor of PR is now on trial for courruption charges. When you compare newspapers you can see who they support. Take for example this picture above. You can see his thinning front hair, his wrinkles and his double chin. Add the weird expression and that's enough to make me distrust him. Guilty before even tried by public opinion. Not that he doesn't deserve it ( cause I think he is guilty), but the mass can seem to make an unbiased opinion based on facts anymore. Well it seems that pictures speak more than words ( Without reading the article, I know the writers opinion on the subject).

Steelers!!!

WOW!! Incredible game, this coming from a non football fan.
The biggest highlight for me was the 100 yd touchdown by Harrison. Who would ever think that he could run that far, and make the touchdown with two guys on top of him.
At the end we started to get nervous when the Cardinals caught up, but thanks to Roethlisberger and Holmes it was a great game. Also Polamalu did great on defense.I also have to mention that Fitzgerald ( with help from Warner) brought the game back for the Cardinals. At the beginning I was sure the Steelers where going to win, but then the Cardinals surprised us with that comeback.
This being my first official Super Bowl experience in Pittsburgh, I was shocked at the riot that ensued after the win.Apparently, whenever the Steelers win, everyone goes crazy. People where lighting things on fire in the middle of the streets, parking meters where being damaged, even bus stops where in danger. I thought people were supposed to just scream and cheer, did not expect a real riot.
Overall, it was great!

Random Facts: xkcd

Someone showed a very interesting xkcd webcomic about Wikipedia, around August (2008). Fast forward to the present, I had a conversation over the phone and realized that I know too many random facts. I believe Wikipedia is a black hole of information and you might get sucked into it. So be aware Wikipedia prowlers, you might end up filling your brain with many useless ( sometimes helpful) random facts. ( Wikipedia links are so addictive!)

With no job, and 5 kids "better to end our lives"

(CNN news)
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/01/28/family.dead.california/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- It was described as one of the most grisly scenes Los Angeles police had ever encountered: the bodies of five small children and their parents, all shot to death, in two upstairs rooms of the family's home.

No matter how bad the situation is in live, everything passes. There is little that is constant in our lives. Loosing a job and even dying is just an instant in time and will be forgotten. If you want to blame your economic situation for your depression it is alright, but you should never decide for those you love. Suicide should not be an option, but if you insist in continuing with your decision, it should be for yourself alone. The children had a grandmother and the state to take care of them. More than act of desperation, it sounds like an act of selfishness. One should take responsibility in hard times and modify our lifestyles to our new conditions. There are always solutions to problems. If you cannot find them by yourself, then seek help.

93-year-old froze to death

( yahoo news, CNN)
BAY CITY, Mich. – A 93-year-old man froze to death inside his home just days after the municipal power company restricted his use of electricity because of unpaid bills, officials said.

"Hypothermia shuts the whole system down, slowly," Virani said. "It's not easy to die from hypothermia without first realizing your fingers and toes feel like they're burning."
Schur had no children and his wife had died several years ago.

We need to ensure that tragedies don't occur simply because we live in a capitalist world. The power company blames neighbors for not realizing earlier that Schur had no power. Measures should be implemented in special cases ( winter anyone?). It is obvious that policies such as this should be revised. Why should a lonely 93 year old have to die because the state is not competent enough to be unselfish? As one of the richest nations in the world, we should not be pursuing blind capitalist ideals.

Steelers, Here we go!

Sunday is a big day for Pittsburgh, apparently there is this little thing called the Super Bowl. I must admit I'm no football fan ( barely know the rules), but it seems kind of infectious and unavoidable to support the Steelers if you live in Pittsburgh. My first Pittsburgh Super Bowl experience should be an interesting one. ( Free food everywhere!!!!) So stay at home on Sunday and support your team.

Song on mind:

Here we go
Here we go
Here we go
Steelers, Here we go
Pittsburgh's going to the Super Bowl
Here we go

Cheer the Steelers, Black and the Gold
Here we go
Town of Pittsburgh's, Heart and Soul
Here we go
With Cowher power, will get the job done
This is the year will get that one for the thumb

Vatican angry at Obama's funding of abortion programs

And that is why Obama is probably not Catholic. Ha:) The pope is hilarious, like someone would care. Maybe he can try to excommunicate Obama; or perhaps he should do that with all those Boston priests. Who is he kidding? Like a park can erase years of sanctioned abuse. Better fork some more money before starting the battle against contraception, and the persecution of free thinking people.

Last whale in Australia dies!

Noooo! It's so sad. I don't understand why they don't use a forklift to raise them from the sea coast; and a tug boat to take them back to the ocean. They only pour water over their backs, and watch them die. Too morbid for my taste.

Grey's Anatomy

Izzy is going to die!!!!!

Finally, it's about time. Grey was so pathetic in this episode. She should kill herself already. Since we all know that this is how it's going to end.

Castro Font Guilty

"Former Sen. Jorge de Castro Font entered the plea Wednesday after prosecutors agreed to drop 10 of the 31 charges he faced for allegedly trading political favors for cash and services."

Puerto Rico:

From 9 to 11 years, probably will not even serve 4. Every now and then they get caught. Unfortunately for every few they get many more are free to steal from the people. After months of declaring his innocence, the evidence was just too strong and he had to confess. Hopefully this will help scare others from corruption. ( next up Anibal Acevedo Vila)

Clinton confirmed as secretary of state

(Clinton at Wellesley Graduation)

It was clear ever since her nomination last year that she wouldn't go down quietly. She is a Wellesley and Yale graduate. Those Wellesley girls are a bit power hungry but overall competent. Hope she does a great job.

Is Castro still alive?

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez met with Cuba's ailing former leader Fidel Castro on Wednesday, easing rumors that his health had badly deteriorated"

The big question on everybody's mind: Is Fidel Castro still alive? Can we trust the Argentine President with knowing the truth. Picking a woman president for the meeting is an obvious choice. (Women are more trustworthy and believable). Do we care if he is alive or not?
Fidel Castro is more than a man, he is a name and an image. His health is important because it claims the end of an ideal. As an influential political image, his name is associated with an ideology. His death means the culmination of that ideology and the beginning of a new ideology for Cuba.Even if he is very sick and probably not able to carry any decision, In Cuba there will no change until his death can be proclaimed officially. Although Raul Castro can be seen by many as the next Castro, it's very unlikely He is yet to show any unique opinion on any subject.
